Spanish hostages freed by al-Qaida-linked group following prisoner swap, allegations of ransom
Two Spanish aid workers kidnapped almost nine months ago by an al-Qaida affiliate arrived Tuesday in Barcelona after a multi-million-dollar ransom was reportedly paid for their freedom — a sign of the terrorist group's growing sophistication in bankrolling operations through kidnappings, experts said Aid workers Roque Pascual and Albert Vilalta were abducted last November when their convoy of 4-by-4s was attacked by gunmen on a stretch of road in Mauritania, They were whisked away to Mali, whose northern half is now one of the many stretches of remote desert where al-Qaida of Islamic Maghreb, or AQIM, has stretched its tentacles ,Late on Monday afternoon, the pair stepped out of a helicopter that landed on the grounds of the presidential palace in Burkina Faso and were handed a cell phone. Reporters overheard them saying into the phone 'muchas gracias' — or many thanks.

Cluster Bombs and Civilian Lives: Efficient Killing, Profits and Human Rights
Cluster bombs are in the news again, thanks to a recent report from Amnesty International,The human rights agency has confirmed that 35 women and children were killed following the latest US attacks on an alleged al-Qaeda hideout in Yemen, Initially, there were attempts to bury the story, and Yemen officially denied that civilians were killed as a result of the December 17 attack on al-Majala in southern Yemen, However, it has been simply impossible to conceal what is now considered the largest loss of life in one single US attack in the country,If the civilian casualties were indeed a miscalculation on the part of the US military, there should no longer be any doubt about the fact that cluster munitions are far too dangerous a weapon to be utilized in war, And they certainly have no place whatsoever in civilian areas, The human casualties are too large to justify ,Yemen is not alone, Gaza, Lebanon and Afghanistan are also stark examples of the untold loss and suffering caused by cluster bombs.

The Islamo-Judeo-Christian America
As an American Muslim living in what I like to call the "Things Taken Out of Context Era," I am enthused about the idea of Muslims joining people of other faiths at the religion table to discuss theology and history in context, I hope to see the program responding to an urgent need for religious leaders of other faiths to understand Islam in order to disseminate accurate information on Islam from the pulpit,Today, many are flocking to great institutions like Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt and Dar al-Mustafa in Yemen to obtain higher Islamic education, It takes great planning and preparation to leave life here in the United States to make the journey across the world and live there for a prolonged period of time, While the opportunity to live and learn in another country attached to the beginnings and history of Islam is one of a lifetime.
